Christmas concert – a Light in the Darkness
The midwinter darkness is illuminated by shimmering Christmas music as the Swedish Chamber Choir invites you to a concert on the longest night of the year, just three days before Christmas Eve.
The program traditionally includes many Swedish Christmas favorites, such as Olsson’s ‘Guds son är född’ (The Son of God is Born), Sandström’s ‘Det är en ros utsprungen’ (Lo, How a Rose E’er Blooming), and Nielsen’s ‘Förunderligt och märkligt’ (Wonderful and Strange), but also some rarer gems, including Poulenc’s ecstatic ‘Hodie Christus natus est’ (Today Christ is Born) and Linkola’s swirling ‘Nog är det ändå jul’ (Surely It’s Still Christmas).
As if that wasn’t enough, the choir will also perform three pieces by Johann Sebastian Bach in succession; ‘In dulci jubilo’ and ‘O Jesu Guds son’ lead up to the heavenly motet ‘Der Geist hilft unser Schwachheit auf’ (The Spirit Helps Our Weakness).
If you wish to bring children, we welcome you to the earlier concert. We warmly welcome you to celebrate the Christmas season with us!
Saturday, December 21, 3.30 pm and 6.00 pm, Tyska Kyrkan, Göteborg
